Introducing FLAX Clothing!!! Wow... are we having fun around here with these fun new Rags!!! I've decided to bring in the FLAX line of ladies apparel, because my very favorite boutique closed last year... and I couldn't find my very fav clothes in Tulsa anymore. An extensive line of 100% linen... FLAX has been around for something like 25 years -- and I've worn it for 20! Classy and trendy... the collections all feature loose, relaxed, pigment dyed linen and linen/cotton gauze. Very Organic, Very Artzy-Fartzy, Creative and Fun!! Sizes range from petite to really-not-so-petite... and everything looks great on everyone! We've begun with two collections -- FLAX's current Traveler's and the FLAX Ltd 2012 Collections. Moving around a few fixtures in the shop to make room was kind of fun... you can always find a place for something new you love!!! The Dorset Table Top Magnifier Lamp by CraftliteThis is a WONDERFUL little lamp!!! Our second shipment has arrived and we are once again excited about this remarkable lamp! It has a weighted base, and plugs in to regular wall outlet. You can see on the arm bends halfway up for adjustment. Then, where the lens meets the arm... THAT is a heavy-duty ball joint, so the lens swivels and turns just how you want! See the little flip-up lens cover? It stores safely in a sunny room, stays clean, and can't get scratched (by kitties or the cleaning lady) because the lens is covered when not in use. 4-Inch lens, 3-diopter magnification, with little 5X mag area. BEST PART is the natural daylight balanced 12 watt circular tube bulb surrounding that lens. Your work area is so beautifully lit... you are going to be SO HAPPY! Also, really cool, is that the bulb is recessed around that lens on the bottom side, (and covered so little fingers can't fiddle!) so if you are in a darkish room, and the TV is on... nobody else in the room is bothered by the glare of your lightbulb on the TV screen... they can't see it! The lens features a small 5X bi-focal area, for viewing extra-small stuff!!! It is powerful, very lightweight (I bet it isn't even 8 pounds), and so simple! Designed to be plugged into the wall, 6-foot AC power cord included, *OR run on 3 size D batteries* it has a flexible gooseneck so you can direct the light anywhere you want it. It stands a mere 53 inches high, (27 inches is the stick, gooseneck is 18 inches, weighted base), so when you bend the neck, it really stands approx 36 inches high. It weighs almost nothing, so it BEGS to travel with you! It comes in a box that is only 16 x 16 x 5 inches -- so it ships to you as a regular-weight item!! (No oversize-box shipping charges!) If you're enjoying our teeny personal Mighty Bright Lights -- the $5.99 ones, or the $30 clip-on lights, you'll understand the intensity of the LED lights this piece offers! They are astonishing! The LED bulbs never need replacing, either! Next to my incandescent desk lamp, the light from this looks 'purple-ish' to me. It is VERY bright directly in the area that my needlework fabric is... and since the lights are in the lens casing... there is no light glare that will show up on the TV screen across a dark room! Micro-Mini-Mighty Brights! Well... these are the coolest LITTLE lights!!! Brought to us by the Mighty Bright people, these are tiny LED lights that measure only 1/2 an inch thick, an inch wide, and a whopping 1-3/4 inches long! They weigh an ounce, they clip onto a book, papers, whatever, and have a tiny light that actually swivels to be directed down (like into a book, or to see the sidewalk) or out! Available in 5 different colors -- silver, purple, blue, apple green or rosy pink -- press that big button, and you'll get the brightest little light -- it's absolutely unbelievable! One belongs in your stitching bag, another in your purse, another beside your bed to read with, or just use as a tiny night light, another to clip to the phone book... are you getting the picture??? They are cute and very powerful little things! The best part, is that they are only $7.00 each! WAY TOO CUTE, NEAT, AND COOL!
The Gypsy Sit Upon Our Camp Wannasew Ladies brought these little charmers to Camp last weekend... and we thought they were the COOLEST things! They are plastic pillows -- 12 inches in diameter and 2-1/2 inches thick -- designed to make you more comfortable when sitting for long periods (or short, for that matter!) Place one behind your back -- upper or lower -- which ever feels best for you. Then sit comfortably while stitching, quilting, reading, driving, surfing the net... whatever! 'Softly inflated flexible disc (deep purple) prevents fatigue and reduces pressure on the tailbone. Helps relieve lower back pain, strengthens core muscles, and improves blood circulation. Nubby texture (see the little nibs all over one side???) allows cooling air flow and promotes improved blood circulation. Durable purple rubberized material remains soft and pliable... One Size Fits All!' (We're fighting over the sample I opened up in the backroom!) Comes already inflated, will not deflate. Miniature Vintage Pincushion from Sudberry House I've been seeing this little guy for some time, and finally ordered some for the shop. What a pleasant surprise they are! Sudberry House delivers a 2-3/4 x 4 x 1-3/4 inch box (it kind of reminds us of a tiny manger) with a design area on top of 2-1/4 x 3-1/2! Almost an inch deep inside, you can finish the top -- and still have a tiny storage area underneath the pin cushion lid. I don't know what we'll put into ours yet -- probably a small Blackbird design... doesn't matter... this is just the cutest little thing! Look around for something small to stitch, the box/tray/(manger!) comes with the padded piece to mount needlework.
Wooden Candle Screen from Sudberry House We love this finishing idea... a small frame on a stand... really showcases your smaller pieces of needlework. In the olden days, candle screens actually had a candle stick holder on the pole, you'd burn the candle behind the screen -- delivering softer light without the glare of the flame. We used to carry these years ago, and I thought it was time to bring some into the shop again. By Sudberry House, each wood piece features a dark mahogany finish, 5-1/2 inch in diameter base, approx 15-1/2 inch post with pretty finial top, and a 5 x 6-1/2 inch frame that clamps onto the pole. You can adjust the height of the frame on the stick. The opening in the frame is approx 3-1/2 x 5... perfect for lots of smaller samplers! Very traditional, very pretty, a great option if your walls are full!
Leatherette Stitching/Jewelry/Tool Cases AWESOME colors of soft, rich faux leather, these little cases are so cool for so many different things! Measuring approx 5-3/4 x 3-1/4 x 2, they feature a snap tab closure. Open your very smart, very tailored little case to find a colorful suede interior, complete with a removable divider-shelf piece. Both the interior top and bottom (1/2 an inch deep) are lightly magnetized, so any scissors, clippers, needles, etc that you store inside do NOT fall all over the place inside! Thread Separators from Puffin & CompanyThis is a lovely collection of hand-made metal art pieces that have been designed to separate your threads, hold your eyeglasses, or hang in a window to look pretty!!! (Actually, I can think of lots of different uses for these!) Hand-crafted from copper, brass and nickel, each Puffin Heart features a miniature work of metal art. SOOO pretty, the metals are shiny and look fresh against the distressed and antiqued metal background heart. Some pieces have etched patterns, some have swirls from the turning machinery, small embellishments welded everywhere... a few glass beads here and there... each one is so charming! Clamp the copper spinning-clip to an end of your thread... let it drop... and begin to separate your strands of floss that you are holding on the other end. Your Puffin will act as a weight, spinning and spinning, letting your threads separate without knotting. If you don't want to use it for that... clip it to your outfit and use the bottom loop to hold your eyeglasses! And... for effortless enjoyment just hang one somewhere -- they are exquisite-- and just fun to look at! Each measures approx 3-1/2 inches wide, 3 inches high, with an additional 1-1/4 inches for the copper clamp spinning hanger. My personal favorite is that cheery heart!
Little Lambie Pie and Kitty Needle Minders from Puffin & CompanyThese are SO cute... handmade of copper, nickel and brass, these magnets would be happy on your refrigerator OR your needlework -- keeping track of needles and threaders. Smaller companions to the Puffin's Thread Separators, each has a pair of those super-duper strong micro-mini magnets attached to their backside, so they perch anywhere a magnet can! They're approx 1 x 1-2 inches in size... very nicely done.
Hornbook Frames by Pricilla's Pocket Oh wow... we have 4 awesome primitive hornbook frames and one tiny individual hornbook thread palette by Priscilla's Pocket. Paddle Shapes if you will, all are patterned after antique hornbooks -- the wooden paddle predicescors to text books in Colonial American Education. Lessons were attached to the wooden hornbooks -- kind of like a reading book. Priscilla's Pocket has made 4 sizes of black and raisin distressed frames that are slightly irregular in shape, and totally on the mark as far as authenticity. Black matte painted finish with hints of raisin peeking through... the painted finish is individually hand-done and bumpy and the edges of the frames are slightly rounded and irregular. (Your framer will have to contour his boards a bit... and you'll hear about it...) I have only one design that specifically fits one of these -- Chessie & Me's All Hallows Eve for the Maryland size. I bought the rest of them because they are simply really COOL, and beautifully done. So awesome, in fact, that we'll FIND things to put into them. Probably the cart before the horse... but definitely one of those shopping circumstances that when it fits, you buy it in every color! Mini Hornbook opening is approx 2-1/2 x 3-1/2. Maryland Hornbook's opening measures 3-1/4 x 7-1/4. New Jersey Hornbook's opening measures approx 4-1/2 x 7. Pennsylvania measures approx 6-1/2 x 7-1/2. Priscilla is from Arizona... WHY are these named after states on the east coast??? Could have been fun to name the long, skinny one after California! OR... turn it on its side and name it OKLAHOMA! Pick the square-ish one and name it Colorado! Just having fun with that! Charming frames OOOZZZING with personality! Pricey, but remember that each is hand-finished
Mini Thread Organizing Paddle Hornbooks These are the CUTEST! Featured on Needlemade's Black Cat and Priscilla's Pocket's From Every Mountainside designs... this small paddle doubles as your frame and thread organizer. Measuring only 3 x 6 overall... it features 4 holes for threads... and a charming chunky design statement. Each is hand-made, and available in various woods... our selection varies in color. LOTS of personality with these, find anything small to mount. Simply cut a board, wrap needlework around it, trim with a bit of cord if you wish, and you're finished. Just an ENDEARING little wood piece!
Miniature Wooden Hornbooks! Here are two small wooden cut-outs that mimic the shape of antique hornbooks, which were used in the olden days as an alternative to a textbook in school. Papers and lessons were attached to these little 'paddles', the handles tying to students belts and such, for easy transport to and from school. Stitch something small and mount onto these. You can have the handle at the top -- makes a cute area for an ornament hanger loop. You can have the handle at the bottom... and make a tiny sampler to display on it! They'd make fun tree ornaments, they're neat tucked inside a pretty sewing case. They'd be pretty framed in a needlework-themed shadow box... basically, there are tons of things you could do with these. No specific designs call for these... just find something cute in your stash! Tiny one measures 1 x 1. Small one's paddle area measures a mere 2-1/2 x 2-3/4, handle is another 1 inch. Larger hornbook measures 4-3/4 x 3-1/4, with a handle of 1-1/2 inches. Too darn cute!
Sterling Silver Stitches, and Needlework Tools Designed by: Charland Designs These sterling silver charms are the coolest! They are tiny silver stitches that are perfect on a necklace, charm bracelet, a sampler, a special stitching basket or needle case... just anywhere! So fun to collect, because they're affordable, and make great gifts for your stitching friends. We have a framed display in the shop, and have photographed them on our display to show you. Grip-n-Stitch or Clip-n-Stitch Fabric Flair has invented a really cool stitching frame that we think offers you lots of options and great possibilities to make your stitching easier and nicer looking! Lots of details to discuss! Lightweight plastic -- like a Q-Snap, but smaller in your hand. Each frame set comes as an assortment of small pieces to snap together in ANY size combination you wish. (One set will handle a piece of fabric of 46 linear inches in perimeter. This is slightly less than a 12 x 12 piece. If you have larger fabric, you'll need two frame sets to make the frame large enough.) Make your frame a bitty 4 x 4 or a strange 3 x 15... anything! You have options to re-position your fabric on your frame, or leave it stationary. You can see those scary looking mini-spikes... they hold the fabric in place, and DO NOT damage it. (Honest, we tore open the package the minute these arrived in the shop and played with them a LOT!) You get hook and loop tape and comfort clamps to cover those spikes (actually they are very small -- like 1/8 of an inch) if you want. The entire frame set weighs approx 8 ounces... it is re-useable, portable, small, and keeps your fabric TIGHT! Set includes 12 - 2-inch pieces, 4 - 1-inch pieces, 4 corners, 14 handle pieces, a yard of hook and loop tape, and very clear instructions for all the ways you can make this work for you!
Q-SNAPS Cool little gadgets, Q-Snaps are INDISPENSIBLE! They are a very lightweight frame, designed to hold your needlework fabric tight, and straight on the grain...for neater and easier stitching. There are several sizes available... and each set in interchangeable with the others... but the newest is this teeny little one, which is pictured. Sometimes you just need a LITTLE something!
