The Silver Needle

La-D-Da has a collection of primitive designs that seem to offer just a touch of whimsey. Unusual color selections sometimes, unusual design shapes... we like her things... because they look unique and fresh! Available as individual charts, here are a few of her things!

Spot the Cat from La D Da -- click to see a larger view Spot the Cat
La-D-Da had some cute releases a few weeks ago -- I love this little cat-guy -- kind of standing there like a dog! Cute as can be, stitch him on the 30ct Weeks Confederate Gray linen called for with DMC floses... or change the cat colors to make him match your kitty... he finishes approx 4 x 6.

Offered as the chart, he's a quick stitch. I'm looking a this, and the Gentle Art Simply Wool would be an excellent thread choice for the cat!

Alone in the Garden from La D Da -- click to see a larger view Alone in the Garden
A traditional Adam and Eve scene -- everything follows diamond-shape pattern in here. The borders, leaves, flowers and even the clothes!!!

Offered as a chart, this finishes approx 6 x 6 over two on 30ct.

Count Your Blessings from La D Da -- click to see a larger view
Count Your Blessings
A small chart, this offers a wonderful sentiment. Just a simple thing... and another really pretty design that begs for Simply Wool hand-dyed thread, it finishes just 4 x 6 on 30ct over two.

Only 4 colors used, the model in the pic is finishes with flannel fabric forming a flanged edge treatment.

La-D-Da has finally released the first part of her sampler reproduction of an 1806 sampler. The chart cover shows quite a distressed old piece with little people and animals, a house and an alphabet... and Margaret's name, age and date of stitching! Lori gives us some history of the original piece in here -- only the bottom part of Margaret's sampler has survived! Due to be offered in three separate charts, Part One -- this one -- is Lori's 're-do' of half of the original bottom. Part Two will finish off the rest of the bottom -- as we see it in the chart's pic.

THEN... Part Three will be Lori's flourish of design to re-create and complete Margaret's sampler again with her idea of what the top might have been! Stitched on Weeks Dye Works 30ct cocoa Linen in Weeks flosses of Pelican Gray, Havana, Charcoal, Baked Apple, Oak, Swiss Chocolate, Molasses and Schneckley, the stitch count for the finished piece will be 170 x 192 -- finishing approx 11 x 13.

Margaret Cottam Aged 9 Sampler -- A Three-Part Journey from La D Da -- click to see a larger view Each chart offers a tiny bonus design, too. This one is for *Maggy's Key.* It is finished as a pin cushion -- but Lori did tiny motifs of each thread color, so it becomes an actual STITCHED pallette, a STITCHED color guide! (I think it would be neat to stitch a tiny symbol there, too.) You'll need a 4 x 5 cut of the Cocoa linen for it, as well. Quite a charming idea... All 3 charts have now arrived.

Lazy Alphabet

Toil & Trouble from La D Da - click to see more Toil & Trouble
Something Wicked had the witch's boot... this one has her nose!!! Quite the gruesome verse, but if you have just the right person to stitch this for... it works!

Bo Peep (No Sheep) from La D Da -- click to see more Bo Peep (No Sheep)
One needs no sheep to stitch and enjoy this pretty piece! I have no idea why Lori didn't put in a sheep for Ms Bo Peep... but my eye is looking at the cool tree anyway, and I don't miss him!

One of 5 new things we have by La D Da... this is simply a charming little 8 x 9-ish piece to grace a small wall somewhere. Offered as the chart.

Something Wicked from La D Da -- click to see more Something Wicked
Everyone LOVES this little boot... it's stitched on Weeks 35ct Havana linen in black and gray, with a touch of green accent.

It finishes approx 4 x 9-1/2, and is just the most unique little piece! Offered as the chart.

All Our Troubles from La D Da -- click to see more All Our Troubles
Words of wisdom... we've had several debates in the shop about JUST what they mean! Lots of different opinions... we all agree that we love the berries and the branch, and we're stitching a shop model!

Offered as a chart, this finishes approx 4 x 13 on 35ct Weeks Beige hand-dyed linen. Coded for DMC, Weeks floss, or silk.

Three Sweet Hearts from La D Da -- click to see more Three Sweet Hearts
These are just that! A trio of hearts, each stitched on 30ct Weeks Tin Roof, Parchment and Chestnut linens in Crescent's Belle Soie Silks, there is nothing flashy about any of them, but they are charming, just the same.

Something pretty to hang from a dresser drawer pull, all three come in the small chart, along with template and instructions for finishing.

Harvest Angel from La D Da -- click to see more
Harvest Angel
La D Da's third long and skinny angel band sampler, Harvest joins Old Glory and Garden Angels, and is just as charming! She measures approx 3 x 13 on 36ct linen and is charted for silks or DMC.

If you study the design a bit, you'll realize that the angel's dress continues most of the way down the sampler, and that each band is really a part of the dress! Each angel has the same crooked little halo and bird perched on a wing -- all three are fun, and offered as single charts.

Rejoice Always Rejoice from La D Da -- click to see lots more!
Rejoice Always Rejoice
A simple new design by La D Da, there isn't much to this, except a REALLY wonderful verse that leaves you with such a good feeling. Offered as a single card chart, this finishes approx 10 x 10 on 28ct, and is stitched with only 4 colors of Sampler Threads. Very, very classy and understated... the wandering border has great balance. This has caught my eye!

Gabrielle Rose
Gabrielle Rose from La D Da -- click to see a larger viewSuch a simple, yet classic birth announcement... perfect for an elegant nursery, you could even change this and make it a wedding announcement as well! Stitched on your choice of linens, this measures approx 5 x 12 on 28ct, and features just six soft DMC shades. Try out your silk stash, add a few overdyeds... the sky's the limit!

The leaflet offers lots of extra graph room and the alphabet for personalization. Just really nice, something that can hang in the room for years and years, and become a treasured memento. And... it's La-D-Da's 100th design!!!

Our Daily Bread
Here is a classic design perfect for a kitchen or dining room... and something that might make a really touching housewarming gift! (Instead of your initials down at the bottom... use their last name letter, and the date they moved in.. kind of like a 'house established' sort of thing!) Anyway, presented as a single sheet leaflet, this is stitched on your choice of linens, in just 5 Sampler Threads! Dried Thyme, Maple Syrup, Tarnished Gold, Forest Glade and Gingersnap... the color palette is rich, and presents a nice piece! Finishing approx 5 x 11 on 28ct... no special stitches... just nice, classic cross stitch!

Garden Angel
This is a charming design, long and skinny, that measures 4 x 17" on 28ct linen! Your Garden Angel is stitched in overdyed -- two of the new Sampler Threads are called for!

Her dress is actually bands of flowers, and I don't think you notice that right away. Anyway, I just liked this one when I saw it! Available as a chart.
